Day 1 - The (mis)adventure begins

Jim and I met at the airport at 09:30 and hung out waiting for the 11:10 departure. Jim’s original seat was way back at the end of the airplane next to the chickens, cows and monkeys. Fortunately the ticket agent moved him up to the united economy plus section, which is much more civilized - things were looking up for our boy! Once on board, Jim showed me his new seat boarding pass with a cat that ate the canary look. It was row 17, which is located in the upper business section of the 747. Wow, talk about going from the outhouse to the penthouse. Up the stairs he went, which is where and when the real excitement began. Seems he was given seat H in row 17, now in the upper business section, there are only four seats - no seat H. I stood behind on the staircase, if only to observe whether this complete miscarriage of justice would last. Several paying customers eyeballed Jim suspiciously, and the stewardess in charge of the upper deck was now totally flummoxed. I began to slowly back down the stairs, if only to distance myself from what was to an obvious attempt by two low life’s to scam their way into business class. Finally in front of all curious onlookers, the light bulb went off, and the stewardess haughtily reported that the boarding pass she was holding was from Jim’s trip from Las Vegas to LA. Nice try hoser! Back to the outhouse for you.

We boarded the plane headed out to the tarmac, sat for 15 minutes, then turned around and went back to the gate. Seems our plane had problems with one of the radios, so we switched to another 747 and three hours later it was finally sayonara. We arrived in Tokyo 14 hours later, still a little punchy from the flight. At baggage retrieval, Jim tried to have a little fun with the cart retrieval area.
